Building upon its “Cloud First” ICT strategy, Arun District Council migrates to Cadcorp cloud-hosted web mapping
Arun District Council (ADC) has been using Cadcorp web mapping technology since 2014. It is deployed throughout the council and is accessible to the public via the council’s website.
When the existing contract came up for renewal, ADC took the opportunity to migrate to cloud web mapping from Cadcorp using the government G-Cloud framework. The move fits the council’s transition plan to move services to cloud-hosted environments and to ultimately improve resilience and reduce the reliance on internal ICT staff.
Existing web mapping licences are being transitioned from on-premise to a Cadcorp cloud-hosted and managed environment. The council will benefit from Cadcorp SIS WebMap with Local Knowledge™, and the Edit and ReportIT modules. The council are also taking advantage of the Cadcorp Spatial Database Service and Cadcorp Ordnance Survey MasterMap Topographic Vector Service. This will give them quick and easy access to the latest vector OS MasterMap Topography Layer. Cadcorp will manage the software and Ordnance Survey mapping updates on their behalf.
Migrating GIS technology to the cloud can bring a significant number of benefits to an organisation. It has the potential to reduce both the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date. Given the cloud nature of the project, Cadcorp and ADC are able to progress the migration remotely, ensuring that delivery is not delayed in the current situation.

Peter Marsh, Systems Development Manager at ADC commented: “Streamlining our processes and automating where possible is releasing resource from our day-to-day work. We are actively engaged with Cadcorp and are delighted that they have the facilities to deliver on the project remotely and keep the cloud migration on track.”
Cadcorp is running a webinar 2nd June 2020 on ‘Why Web Mapping is more than publishing GIS data’, which will feature more details of the Arun District Council cloud migration project. To register, click here.
