Northamptonshire on the hunt for CEO to lead during turbulent times
A recruitment process is to be launched to appoint a new chief executive to Northamptonshire County Council.
The new chief executive will lead the struggling council on a fixed-term basis until the new unitary authorities are established through local government reform in the county.
Earlier this month, government-backed commissioners were sent in to improve operations at the local authority.
Andrew Quincey was appointed interim chief executive in March whilst awaiting the decision of the housing and communities secretary’s decision following the Best Value Inspection earlier this year.
Cllr Matthew Golby was appointed as council leader last month after the original leader resigned when a government report recommended the impoverished authority should be split into two smaller unitary councils.
Golby said: “After discussions with the commissioners we will shortly be launching a recruitment process to fill the chief executive post with a fixed-term appointment.
“We aim to conclude the recruitment process as quickly as possible.”
The local authority, which attracted national attention after being forced to empty all its cash reserves in order to balance its books.
Just this week, Cherwell District Council decided to end its partnership with South Northamptonshire as a result of the area’s local government review and is now considering teaming up with Oxfordshire County Council instead.
