Money and time

As the new NAO report into police mobile devices suggests, having the latest technology does not always translate into cashable savings and vast increases in efficiencies.

Spending millions on shiny new mobile devices has not significantly helped the police forces who received them. This could be due to the lack of management and structure in how they were to be used; formal savings needs an equally rigid plan.

Although technological advances can bring significant benefits when used appropriately, they do not represent a magic bullet.

In order to generate significant savings, both in time and money, more thought is needed, and considering exactly how such devices will be used is an essential part of this process.

Throwing money at a service and expecting direct results is an impractical way to seek improvement. Successful services do not necessarily rely on resources, but on the way these resources are utilised.
