Independent Scotland would keep the pound – but not the BBC

The Scottish National Party has unveiled its blueprint for independence, promising to keep the pound and the Queen as head of state, and to remain in the EU – but it would have its own military and be solely responsible for its own tax affairs.

It would also launch a new Scottish Broadcasting Service to replace the BBC.

The 670-page document, called ‘Scotland’s Future’, tells Scots what they can expect if they vote ‘yes’ in the referendum on 1 September, 2014.

Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond and his deputy Nicola Sturgeon said there would be no need to raise taxes.

The live launch event is still going on and can be watched here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=47q_wXhHRpE
