In the balance

Things could be looking up for smaller local businesses – new EU rules increase the chances of bidders with social and environmental value, and Kirklees’ approach to purchasing provides a significant amount of guidance and support for local bidders.

The idea that more local procurement can bring added benefit to the area, as well as providing a good public service, is becoming more and more accepted.

There is still a way to go, and some of the recommendations set out by Social Enterprise UK today could help to truly balance the markets.
