Academi Wales launched to improve leadership

Leadership excellence can improve Welsh public services, the local government and communities minister Carl Sargeant has announced.

He was speaking at the launch of Academi Wales, a Government programme aimed at improving leadership and management practice within Welsh public services.

The Academi will be a national centre to support this, by bringing together leadership programmes, services and resources from across public services, including local government, the NHS and higher education.

Sargeant said: “Great leadership is essential to the effective delivery of public services in Wales. In order to make sure that the people of Wales have the best opportunities and services we can provide we need to be able to build and sustain leadership at all levels of our workforce.

“Academi Wales will support a culture of leadership and learning which will support and help deliver genuine partnership and collaboration.”

Academi Wales will help to deliver Sargeant’s agenda for public service reform, he added.

If the Minister thinks great leadership is essential why doesn't provide some? good leadership is practising what you preach. This is a wasted opportunity as the Academi appears to be about delivering his agenda of collaboration, churning out a bunch of 'stepford wives' to do Carls bidding. This is not great leadership, great leadership would be not follow ineffective collaboration models with greater costs, wastage and duplication and no benefits for citizens because thats the only idea the both he and the Education Minister have. I wouldn't go to a place of learning that was set up to deliver Carls Public Reform, thats hardly impartial and a place to inspire leadership. Also wonder how much the Academi will cost the tax payer of Wales?
