Harlow Council collects top fleet safety honour at RoSPA Awards

Harlow Council’s housing repairs and maintenance, facilities management and environmental services company has won the Fleet Safety Trophy at the RoSPA Fleet Safety Awards 2019.

HTS (Property and Environment) Limited, which provides services to residents, leaseholders and community organisations, received its award at a gala dinner at ExCeL London last week.

RoSPA’s Fleet Safety Trophy is presented annually to the organisation demonstrating the most effective and cohesive programme for the management of occupational road risk.

HTS (Property and Environment) Limited won this year’s trophy for their approach to managing occupational road risk.

There was a strong training focus, covering managers and individual drivers, good manager-led incident investigation and a range of communications and feedback loops for implementing changes and improvements.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards, said: “HTS (Property and Environment) Limited has demonstrated a real commitment to the management of occupational road risk, with a particular focus on protecting members of the public. Its management system has resulted in a good overall reduction in incident rates and we are delighted to recognise its achievements through the presentation of the RoSPA Fleet Safety Trophy.”

RoSPA’s other top fleet award – the Fleet Safety Technology Trophy - recognises an organisation’s commitment to using the latest technology in managing occupational road risk and was presented to the McGee Group.

In addition to the competitive trophies in the RoSPA Fleet Safety Awards, safety charity RoSPA also presents non-competitive achievement awards and this year 53 organisations have had their management of fleet safety recognised in this way.

As well as this week’s London ceremony, there was a ceremony in Birmingham earlier in the month and another will take place in Glasgow in September.

Devolution, restructuring and widespread service reform: from a journalist’s perspective, it’s never been a more exciting time to report on the public sector. That’s why I could not be more thrilled to be taking over the reins at PSE at this key juncture. There could not be a feature that more perfectly encapsulates this feeling of imminent change than the article James Palmer, mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, has penned for us on p28. In it, he highlights... read more >
