Acting CEO and chief financial officer to leave Northamptonshire CC
The acting chief executive and chief financial officer for a cash-strapped council have both resigned.
Andrew Quincey and Mark McLaughlin have been working under government-appointed commissioners for Northamptonshire County Council since May this year.
The council have been suffering from economic difficulties recently; in April it was forced to sell its brand-new headquarters at One Angel Square for £64m in a bid to balance the books.
Now, Conservative Cllr Matthew Golby, who was appointed as leader less than three months ago after former leader Heather Smith resigned, notified council members of the resignations on Friday.
Cllr Golby noted that interim chief executive Quincey, who took up his post in April, would leave on 27 July.
Interviews for a new permanent chief executive will take place today (9 July) and the successful candidate will be announced on 19 July.
Cllr Golby wrote: "Last week he [Andrew Quincey] handed in his resignation... and will shortly be taking a new role working on a major construction project in Sydney, Australia. Our chief finance officer Mark McLaughlin has also handed in his resignation.
"Mark has made it clear that as the commissioners are now in post and the recruitment process is under way for a new chief executive, the council is moving into its next phase and therefore it is only right that he steps aside."
The Tory council leader added that the resignations are voluntary and there will be no settlement payments.
“I want to thank both Andrew and Mark for all their hard work and dedication to the council over the short and tumultuous period they have been with us,” noted Cllr Golby.
“The panel undertaking the selection process for new candiates will be Cabinet and Councillors, together with our Commissioners and partners. We will let you know the outcome of these interviews shortly.”
Northamptonshire CC announced its hunt for a new CEO in early June.
