Sheffield City Region seeking SMEs for India export scheme

The Sheffield City Region (SCR) is looking for businesses seeking the opportunity to export to India to apply for its new India Growth Champions scheme.

SCR and the UK India Business Council (UKIBC) have partnered to deliver this scheme and are searching for ten SMEs interested in developing business links with India, resulting in a trade mission to the country in Autumn 2020.

If successful, companies will receive ten days of support, an India Business plan with company-specific market research, competitor research, workshops and business mentoring.

Five guaranteed appointments with potential partners form part of the trade mission schedule.

Rachel Clark, Director of Trade and Investment at the Sheffield City Region, said:

“The India Growth Champions scheme is an exceptional opportunity for SMEs from across the region to develop their trade with India – an economy that will be the third largest in the world by 2030.

“India has been an under-exploited export market for the SCR. Whilst the EU accounts for 55% of our goods and services, India and China combined account for only 6%. We want to begin to change that. This scheme opens opportunities and we are confident will lead to real growth to the companies involved.”

Sheffield City Region is India’s 13th largest trading partner, with £66m worth of goods exported to the country in 2016 and more than 420 active exporters. SCR is aiming to increase the amount of trading with India by more than 50% by 2025.

The Scheme will be officially launched on March 17th at the Grant Thornton office on Holly Street, Sheffield, at which point interested parties can apply for a position.
