Royal borough council names new managing director
Duncan Sharkey has been named as the new managing director at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Sharkey, who is currently the corporate director at Milton Keynes Council, is expected to be confirmed as the new managing director at a Full Council meeting on 28 January.
Sharkey has previously worked as the managing director at Worcester City Council and as chief executive at West Lindsey DC. He said: “It is an exciting privilege to be offered the opportunity to work for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
“I am honoured. I look forward to meeting the councillors, our communities, and the hard-working team of officers and partners who deliver services to the residents of the borough.”
The leader of the council, Simon Dudley, said there was an “extensive” assessment centre which included stakeholder panels and written and psychometric tests.
Sharkey’s recommendation has been approved by the Employment Panel, who have recommended that the Full Council ratify the decision at the end of the month.
Dudley commented: “I am pleased to announce that Duncan Sharkey was successful in securing the post. Duncan has over 25 years’ experience in central and local government and, in his current role, he is responsible for a range of services including regeneration, community safety, housing, and waste.
“I am sure he will be a huge asset to the Royal Borough and help us deliver a range of front-line services for our council, as well as ensuring we continue to deliver a balanced budget, focus on performance, and ensure we monitor the range of commissioned services including adult and children’s services and highways.”
He added: “I would like to thank Russell O’Keefe for his work during this interim period, he has done a fantastic job for the council and I am delighted that he stepped up into this role.”
