Oxford City Council offer lifeline to small businesses

Oxford City Council is offering free stalls for 15 small businesses in Oxford at the Gloucester Green Market on Saturday (7 Dec).

The market, run by LSD Promotions on behalf of the council, will open on ‘Small Business Saturday’ a scheme set up to highlight small business success and encourage consumers to ‘shop locally’, boosting the local economy and supporting communities.

The council’s offer will be on a first-come-first-serve basis and is open to anyone who runs a small business in Oxford that provides food, drink or retail.

It also aims to provide business the chance to test their products and businesses on the market, hoping to encourage the businesses to take a permanent stall on the Gloucester Green Market in the future, moving on to the Covered Market if met with success.

Iain Nicholson, Oxford City Council’s City Centre Managers said:

“Small businesses are a huge part of what makes Oxford city centre such an attractive place to shop, live, work, study and visit, so we’re delighted that LSD Promotions is providing this offer for Small Business Saturday.

“The offer fits neatly with what we are doing in the Covered Market and with meanwhile use space, and the hope is we can create a pipeline of small businesses that, with our support, can be nurtured to grow and become permanent city centre retailers of the future.”
