Officials claim 98% superfast broadband coverage in Nottinghamshire
Officials have announced a 98.37% superfast broadband coverage in Nottinghamshire thanks to the Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire campaign.
The campaign is a partnership between Nottinghamshire County Council and a range of funding partners including Central Government, Openreach and the area’s district, borough and City councils that has seen upwards of £31 million invested into it since it began in 2014.
Councillor Kay Cutts, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council and Chair of Policy Committee, said:
"Helping residents and businesses to make the switch to fibre-based broadband will enable them to make the most of the opportunities to gain access to jobs and improved services.”
Better Broadband for Nottinghamshire aimed to have 98% of Nottinghamshire covered by superfast broadband by the end of 2020.
The target has been met with over a year to go, with 98.37% of homes having superfast broadband (More than 24 Megabit per second) and 72.18% having ultrafast broadband (More than 100 Megabit per second).
When the campaign began, 86% of homes in Nottinghamshire already had access to superfast broadband, with mostly rural areas missing out on the technology.
Across the UK, 95.8% of homes have access to superfast broadband and only 56.1% have access to ultrafast broadband.
Nottinghamshire County Council have recently agreed to seek a grant of £236,732 from the European Regional Development Fund, to give fibre broadband access to a further 750 businesses.
