Lincolnshire County Council award £217m highways contract
It was announced today (Dec 2) that Balfour Beatty Living Places has been awarded a six-year contract worth £217m by Lincolnshire County Council for the maintenance of highways assets.
The council will be working closely with Balfour Beatty Living Places to ensure the regions road network, of 9,000 kilometres of highways, carriageways and footpaths, is safe and sustainable, with a possibility to extend the contract for a further six years.
Included in this maintenance will be winter management and drainage cleaning services to improve road conditions and reliability.
Mobile working platforms and traffic management vehicles will join the 54-strong fleet of commercial vehicles invested in to assist ongoing work.
One part of this contract is the Involved Community Investment Programme, focusing on delivering social value spend and sustainability initiatives.
This includes ensuring that 90% of the workforce are hired from the local area and creating 63 apprenticeships and 24 graduate placements.
Karen Cassar, assistant director of Highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said:
"We're delighted to have Balfour Beatty Living Places on-board.
"The new contract will see significant investment in improved equipment and new technology at highways depots around the county, which will mean better road repairs going forward.
"We also welcome their willingness to use local suppliers and take on apprentices, meaning there will be wider benefits for our communities. We look forward to working with them."
Works will begin in Spring 2020, with the creation of 180 employees.
