Doncaster Council approves plans for large-scale airport development
Doncaster Council has approved plans for a major advanced manufacturing and logistics development located at Doncaster Sheffield airport (DSA).
The 3.5 million square foot development, which will be owned and managed by Peel L&P, is set to be one of the largest in the Yorkshire region and is part of the airport’s long-term goals to become one of the UK’s top aviation assets.
The state-of-the-art facility is estimated to create 4,300 jobs and will be a credit to the Sheffield region which is already well recognised for its leading manufacturing facilities.
The scheme also fits in with Doncaster’s emerging local plan which proposes a large-scale commercial development.
Gareth Finch, planning director for investment property and airports at Peel L&P said:
“This decision for Doncaster Council is crucial as the development will unlock delivery of an innovation cluster alongside strategic logistics facilities. We’re pleased to see this support for our vision to create a truly multi-modal location, bringing substantial numbers of permanent jobs in high value sectors adding significantly to Sheffield City Region’s economic productivity.”
The DSA development will be a key strategic asset for the Sheffield City Region and the creation is jobs will serve as a boost to local economy and residents.
The plans are also set to deliver rail connectivity, with direct connections to the nearby East Coast Mainline. There will also be a rail freight terminal to the site manufacturing and logistics site.
