New Chief Executive at East Hampshire and Havant Councils
East Hampshire District Council and Havant Borough Council have approved the permanent appointment of Gill Kneller as shared Chief Executive. She was made interim Chief Executive in January 2019, following the departure of predecessor Sandy Hopkins.
Both councils agreed to appoint her to the position permanently following a recruitment process.
Ms Kneller said: “It is a privilege to be appointed Chief Executive of East Hampshire District Council and Havant Borough Council on a permanent basis, and I want to thank the councillors for this opportunity.
“I have already been in the role for six enjoyable and successful months as interim but there’s plenty of hard work ahead as both councils work towards achieving their goals.”
An environmental health officer by profession, Ms Kneller has worked as an Executive Director for both councils. She has worked as a consultant in the private sector, and holds a number of post graduate qualifications, including a masters in risk management.
Cllr Michael Wilson, Leader of Havant Borough Council, said: “Gill is highly regarded by officers and councillors and has proved her ability to manage the challenges we face in public sector work today.
"Gill is a key asset to the council and as we progress our agenda, I am confident she will assist us in meeting the ambitious targets we have set ourselves."
Cllr Richard Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council, said: “Gill has shown over the last six months that she has the skills and the vision to make an excellent Chief Executive, and we are delighted to be able confirm her appointment.
“I look forward to working with her to deliver the financial sustainability and excellent public services we strive for at East Hampshire District Council.”
