Inspecting from the inside
Would gathering data from pupils, teachers and parents provide a more effective approach to school inspections?
It’s what think tank Demos has recommended, suggesting it will offer a “more honest” picture of schools’ performance, and increase the likelihood of improvement, as solutions will be developed by schools themselves, rather than Ofsted.
A multi-perspective approach sounds impressive, and the views of critical parties should be included in a schools ranking. But an independent inspection system allows Ofsted to be completely objective – something that could be decidedly lacking if this was scrapped.
