Police anger at Theresa May

Home Secretary Theresa May is facing angry policy officers at the Police Federation conference in Bournemouth today.

The union has said her policies mean the Government is “on the precipice of destroying a police service that is admired throughout the world”.

A week ago, 30,000 off-duty officers marched throughLondonin protest at cuts to police budgets. Police services have been one of the hardest hit parts of the public sector in terms of budget cuts.

Federation chairman Paul McKeever is due to tell May: “We have less resilience; fewer warranted officers, a weakened frontline and a radically altered model of British policing.

“Home secretary, we are seeing proposals, things being put in place without infrastructure, that will fundamentally change the dynamics of policing.”
