New Somerset council to spend over £130,000 on new website and branding

A Somerset council which will be formed in a new merger in April next year will spend more than £130,000 on a new website and branding.

Figures sourced by an FoI request by Somerset Live and shared with PSE indicate that a new website, logo, and related branding will run the new Taunton Deane Borough Council and West Somerset Council £134,000 – estimations made when the council’s business case was given the green light earlier this year.

The new logo, signage, and “fleet livery” for the council, Somerset Live reported, has an indicative cost within the same document of £54,000, whilst the apparent cost for the new website was £80,000 – with an intranet also being developed under the project.

The merger between Taunton Deane and West Somerset received official approval from housing, communities, and local government secretary James Brokenshire at the end of May. It is estimated the merger will save £3.1m for the two authorities.

Taunton Deane’s and West Somerset’s residents are currently being consulted on the ward boundaries for the new authority by the Local Government Boundary Commission until 27 August, which will publish its final recommendations on 23 October. To find out more, visit www.lgbce.org.uk.
