Head teachers ballot date set
Head teachers are set to vote on whether to take strike action against the reductions to their pensions. The date for the ballot has been announced as September 29 with the result due on November 9.
It is the first time the National Association of Head Teachers has been balloted for strike action, and this move forms part of wider, co-ordinated industrial action from the public sector, and will mean schools could face disruption during the autumn term.
Strikes already took place this June, when 12,000 schools either closed or partly closed. Teachers say planned changes will mean they will have to work longer, pay more and get less when they retire.
The Government and unions have been in discussion over public sector pensions since January and these are set to continue.
A Cabinet Office spokesman said: “We are totally committed to genuine engagement with the unions. We have a lot to talk about and there are proposals on the table for discussion.”
