GMWDA creates Bolton super recycling site

A new ‘super site’ for recycling household waste is set to open in Bolton as part of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) plans to increase efficiency.

Six Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across Greater Manchester are being closed, with sites merging to reduce costs and improve recycling rates. This includes existing recycling centres in Blackrod, Bolton and Salford.

The new facility in Bolton will accept up to 23 different types of material and include better traffic management to eliminate queuing off-site. The centre will open on October 7.

Cllr Neil Swannick, chair of the GMWDA, said: “We have to ensure that all sites are fit for purpose and unfortunately it was not possible to improve the Blackrod site in the same way as the other recycling centres.

“The new super site that has been built in Bolton will allow residents to recycle more waste in the easiest possible way.”
