Expecting bombshells

With the IMF’s warning that there is a bombshell to come in terms of pensions, this may support the Government’s argument for the need to reform pension schemes in the public sector.

If governments are underestimating the impact the ageing population will have, this burden will fall on future taxpayers as the country struggles to support those in retirement.

For workers facing the changes now it will seem unfair, yet this must be viewed in terms of the larger picture and the shape of the workforce in the long-term.

Perhaps this will affect the pension discussions which are ongoing between unions and the Government.
