Digital Policy Alliance launches to advise Government
A new campaign group has formed to pressure Government to implement better broadband roll-out and improved technical policy.
The Digital Policy Alliance consists of leading charities and companies, including Google, Microsoft and IBM. They are calling for more action on issues of technology uptake and broadband to kick-start the economy.
The Alliance argues that Government policy has failed to open up the market to innovative technological solutions.
Secretary general of the new DPA, Edward Phelps said: “Government urgently needs to review its strategy for broadband roll-out. Government has failed to inject competition into the broadband market leaving many innovative providers unable to offer their services.
“The Alliance is the only organisation which brings together industry experts with charities, civil servants and politicians to show Government the unprecedented potential for public good that digital technologies offer.”
Digital Policy Alliance director Stephen McPartland MP said: “At a time of economic austerity Government must do all it can to ensure digital technologies can transform the way public services are delivered.”
