D2N2 LEP awards £6.4m for Regeneration Route

Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership (D2N2 LEP) has awarded £6.4m from its Local Growth Fund Allocation to part-fund the completion of the Woodville Regeneration Route.

The road, which received the LEPs approval yesterday (July 15), lies between the village of Woodville and the town of Swadlincote in South Derbyshire and will support wider regeneration plans for the area.

The scheme will cost an overall £13.4m, and will be overseen by Derbyshire County Council, aiming to help continue the recent increase in job creation and new housing developments for the area.

The finished Regeneration Route will unlock local land, including commercial space, 300 homes and potentially 3100 jobs.

It will also reduce congestion for drivers accessing Swadlincote from the east and west via the M1, M42 and A38.

D2N2 Interim Chair David Williams said:

“Our investment into road linking Swadlincote and Woodville will help create the homes and jobs the South Derbyshire area needs to continue to thrive.”

“As we move towards the recovery stage of the Coronavirus pandemic, D2N2, through investments such as this, will continue to play a central role in supporting our communities, ensuring no area is left behind.”

The first section of the road is already complete as part of the housing development, with the rest of the route to begin in autumn 2020, with a view to complete in 2021.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, Councillor Simon Spencer, said:

“This funding is the final piece in the jigsaw funding puzzle for the Woodville Regeneration Route so I’m delighted that it has been agreed. Once built the road will help to regenerate the whole area, bringing jobs and new homes.”
