A week until the People’s Powerhouse Event

In a week’s time, The People’s Powerhouse will be in Sunderland hosting their jam-packed ‘this is the North’ convention.

The event will see the coming together of diverse and interesting people, booked to share their insight with guests on 19 November.

Stand up poet and writer Dr Kate Fox will be hosting the event and Arts Council England will be providing a partnership that will bring an arts and cultural focus to the convention.

16 workshops on a wide range of topics will take place, such as basic income and people’s banks, giving people insider knowledge of how to make the North a powerhouse in its own right.

Two ‘ThinkIns’ will be hosted by Tortoise, consisting of live, unscripted conversations to share expertise and make a difference for the future.

The two ThinkIns are:

The trust gap: how did we get here? Trust in our politicians and institutions has plummeted - why has this happened?

How do we close the trust gap? If trust is declining how do we reverse that and win people back?

Six expert classes will be given, from Ed Cox, RSA, Arianna Giovannini, IPPR North, Neil McInroy CLES, Nazir Afzal, Power to Change and Extinction Rebellion about topics such as community wealth building and citizens assemblies.

Topics such as investing in communities, climate change and co-designing public services will be covered in interactive sessions throughout the day.

A new expert session has recently been announced, hosted by Power to Change called ‘How community business can take you to the heart of local power.’

If you want to be part of this year’s #ThisIsTheNorth in Sunderland and be part of a north that is more inclusive, with open and meaningful dialogue on change, now is your last chance to book a place for next week’s event and be part of the future of the north of England.

Or if you want to learn more about the People’s Powerhouse, you can listen to the #WeArePSE Podcast with co-ordinator Stephanie Riches.
