Shared survival

With many councils facing very stark decisions on which services they can continue to provide, reports of savings and business improvements offer a glimmer of hope.

If shared services can cut costs but still boost productivity, local government can afford to deliver vital facilities.

It is this kind of innovation that can prompt service transformation and the LGA’s report will help to spread this best practice to other councils looking for opportunities to change.

The range of partnerships and arrangements that are being set up also demonstrate the fact that one size will not fit all, and the shared services must be based locally to achieve the best outcomes.
