Seven council staff members arrested in fraud investigation
Seven members of staff at Cardiff Council have been arrested on suspicion of fraud.
A council spokesperson confirmed that eight people were arrested on Wednesday as part of the investigation, of which seven were council workers, who allegedly work in the waste management service.
All eight people have now been released on bail.
Cardiff Council confirmed that the authority was working with South Wales Police “while this investigation continues,” although details of the case are scarce at this stage.
The Liberal Democrat group at the council said that the news of the arrests was “concerning.”
“For now, as the investigation is a police matter and at an early stage, it would be inappropriate to comment further,” a statement on Facebook read.
“We are confident the council will act with transparency in providing the police and, in due course, the public with any information they need.”
