Don’t horse around! Council finds new home for house-bound pony

A council that took four years in a legal wrangle to remove a pony from an Isle of Lewis house may have found the four-legged beast a new home.

Western Isles council removed Grey Lady Too – a Connemara pony that was taken into the home by pensioner Stephanie Noble on Christmas Eve in 2011 – from its residence in 2014 because its stable arrangements broke animal welfare guidelines.

Noble said she took Grey Lady Too into her home because she felt there was nowhere else to keep her during the winter months.

The Press and Journal reported that the authority has spent around £10,000 on the horse’s overheads since seizing it in 2014.

A spokesperson for the Western Isles council said: “We have received an offer from within the islands for the pony and are in the process of a sale which we expect to conclude soon.

“We do not wish to have ownership or keep the animal. This case has never been about money but about the welfare of the pony.”
