Go green, or else
Recent Government proposals could see an overhaul of building regulations meaning that adding construction to individual homes would require homeowners to abide by environmental restrictions.
Ensuring all new renovations undertake energy efficiency improvements would allow a huge number of properties to take up the Green Deal, leading to better insulation, lower energy bills and reduced impact on the environment.
Some have argued that this is an imposition, forced upon the public whether they like it or not. It could be suggested that people's right to build should not be constrained in this way.
But working towards a more sustainable society is not the sole responsibility of those who are actively engaged in environmentally friendly activities. Whether they like it or not, everybody has a part to play in improving our effect on the world, and the sooner these measures are entrenched in legislation, the better, for all of us.
